- Range of activities that qualify as scholarly, professional, or creative and under what conditions.
- Articulation with institutional and school/college statements.
- Tenure and promotion criteria. Differential weights for different activities (e.g., teaching, community service, etc.).
- Guidelines and policies for documentation.
- Description of the appeal process.
Other considerations
- Recruiting: how are positions advertised, interviews conducted, and appointments made to support the mission and priorities of the unit?
- Mentoring: what system is in place to support new faculty members?
- Faculty support: what resources are available to support improvement of teaching, non-traditional and traditional forms of scholarship?
- Merit salary guidelines and criteria: what is the relative importance given to teaching, community, and institutional service?
